There is something deeply satisfying about pulling a golden, fragrant loaf out of a bread machine and knowing exactly what went into it. Store-bought bread can be a minefield when you're avoiding certain tree nuts, since shared production lines and vague "may contain" labels make even a simple white sandwich loaf feel risky. This recipe keeps things refreshingly straightforward — just water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast, with zero ambiguity about what's inside. The bread machine does all the heavy lifting, mixing and proofing and baking while you go about your day. You end up with a beautifully domed loaf that sounds hollow when tapped, with a tender, pillowy crumb that's perfect for sandwiches, toast, or eating warm with a generous smear of butter. Letting it cool on a wire rack before slicing is the one small act of patience that keeps the crumb light and airy rather than gummy. Once you've made this at home, it's genuinely hard to go back to the grocery store aisle.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order listed: water, butter, sugar, salt, bread flour, and yeast. Make a small well in the center of the flour and pour the yeast into it, keeping the yeast away from the salt.
Insert the pan into the bread machine, select the Basic or White Bread cycle, choose your preferred crust color (medium is recommended), and press Start. The full cycle will run approximately 3 hours.
