Soft, golden, and brushed with melted butter straight out of the oven — these dinner rolls are the kind of thing that disappears from the table before anything else does. The bread machine does the heavy lifting by handling all the kneading and the first rise, so you can walk away and come back to perfectly developed dough without breaking a sweat. From there, shaping the rolls is satisfying and simple, and that second rise in the baking dish lets them puff up until they're practically touching — exactly what you want for those pillowy, pull-apart edges. Every ingredient here is straightforward pantry staple territory: flour, butter, egg, sugar, yeast, and salt. Nothing hidden, nothing complicated, and no meat or animal-derived ingredients beyond dairy and egg, making these a natural fit for a vegetarian table. Brushing the tops with melted butter right as they come out of the oven gives them that glossy, irresistible finish that makes homemade rolls look like they came from a bakery. Serve them alongside soups, stews, pasta, or honestly just on their own — they really don't need much of an excuse.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine's manufacturer — typically liquids first. Add the warm water, softened butter, and egg, then add the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the yeast. Select the Dough cycle and press Start.
When the Dough cycle completes (typically 90 minutes, including kneading and the first rise), the dough should be smooth, slightly tacky, and roughly doubled in size. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
