Soft, golden dinner rolls straight from your own oven are one of those simple pleasures that make any meal feel like a special occasion. The bread machine does the heavy lifting here — mixing, kneading, and handling the first rise — so by the time you're shaping dough, the hardest part is already done. Every ingredient in this recipe is straightforward pantry staple territory: flour, butter, egg, sugar, salt, yeast, and warm water. There's no need to scrutinize labels for hidden nut-based oils or worry about cross-contamination from store-bought rolls that share production lines with tree nut products. Once baked to deep golden brown and brushed with melted butter right out of the oven, these rolls are pillowy on the inside with just enough of a tender crust to hold up to a swipe of jam or a scoop of mashed potatoes. They puff up beautifully in the pan, pressing against each other for those irresistible pull-apart edges that disappear fast at the dinner table.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine's manufacturer — typically liquids first. Add the warm water, softened butter, and egg, then add the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the yeast. Select the Dough cycle and press Start.
When the Dough cycle completes (typically 90 minutes, including kneading and the first rise), the dough should be smooth, slightly tacky, and roughly doubled in size. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
