Soft, golden dinner rolls fresh from the oven are one of those simple pleasures that make any meal feel like a special occasion. These are made entirely from pantry staples — flour, butter, egg, sugar, salt, and yeast — with absolutely no rice or rice-derived ingredients anywhere in the recipe, so you can dig in without second-guessing the ingredient list. The bread machine does the heavy lifting on kneading and the first rise, leaving you to simply shape the dough and let it puff up before baking. Each roll bakes to a deep golden brown, and that final brush of melted butter right out of the oven gives them an irresistible glossy finish. They come out pillowy and pull-apart tender, the kind of rolls that disappear from the basket before the main course even hits the table. Whether you're serving them alongside a holiday roast or a weeknight soup, these are the kind of homemade rolls that earn serious compliments with very little effort.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine's manufacturer — typically liquids first. Add the warm water, softened butter, and egg, then add the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the yeast. Select the Dough cycle and press Start.
When the Dough cycle completes (typically 90 minutes, including kneading and the first rise), the dough should be smooth, slightly tacky, and roughly doubled in size. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
