Soft, golden, pull-apart dinner rolls are one of those things that feel almost impossible to replicate at home — until you let a bread machine do the heavy lifting. The dough cycle handles all the kneading and the first rise, so by the time you're shaping these into smooth little balls, the hardest part is already done. A brush of melted butter straight out of the oven gives each roll that glossy, irresistible finish that makes it genuinely difficult to eat just one. Parabens are synthetic preservatives found in a surprising number of commercial baked goods, which means store-bought rolls can be a minefield if you're trying to keep your diet clean. This recipe sticks to a short, straightforward list — flour, butter, egg, sugar, salt, yeast, and water — with nothing hidden or unnecessary. Every ingredient is exactly what it says it is, which is exactly the kind of transparency that makes home baking so worthwhile. These rolls bake up pillowy on the inside with a deep golden crust, and they're the kind of thing that disappears fast at a dinner table. Whether you're serving them alongside a holiday roast or just a weeknight soup, they bring a warmth and homemade quality that no packaged alternative can really match.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine's manufacturer — typically liquids first. Add the warm water, softened butter, and egg, then add the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the yeast. Select the Dough cycle and press Start.
When the Dough cycle completes (typically 90 minutes, including kneading and the first rise), the dough should be smooth, slightly tacky, and roughly doubled in size. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
