Soft, golden dinner rolls are one of those things that make any meal feel like a special occasion, and this bread machine method makes them completely achievable on a weeknight. The dough comes together with just a handful of pantry staples — flour, butter, egg, sugar, salt, and yeast — so there's nothing hidden to worry about for anyone avoiding nightshades. That matters more than it might seem, since packaged rolls and store-bought dough often sneak in spices, seasonings, or additives that can be surprisingly hard to vet. Letting the bread machine handle the kneading and first rise takes most of the effort off your plate, leaving you to simply shape the dough and let it puff up before baking. A brush of melted butter straight out of the oven gives each roll a glossy, rich finish that's genuinely hard to resist. They bake up pillowy on the inside with a deep golden crust, and the whole pan disappears fast — so consider doubling the batch.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine's manufacturer — typically liquids first. Add the warm water, softened butter, and egg, then add the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the yeast. Select the Dough cycle and press Start.
When the Dough cycle completes (typically 90 minutes, including kneading and the first rise), the dough should be smooth, slightly tacky, and roughly doubled in size. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
