Soft, golden, pull-apart dinner rolls are one of those things that feel almost impossible to replicate at home — until you realize your bread machine does most of the heavy lifting. Many store-bought rolls and packaged bread products rely on synthetic preservatives like BHA and BHT to extend shelf life, which makes finding a clean option at the grocery store genuinely frustrating. This recipe keeps things refreshingly simple: warm water, butter, egg, flour, sugar, salt, and yeast — nothing more, nothing less. The bread machine handles the kneading and first rise on the Dough cycle, so by the time you're shaping the rolls, the hardest part is already done. A second rise lets them puff up and press together in the pan, giving you that classic pillowy texture with slightly crisp, buttery tops straight from the oven. Brushing them with melted butter the moment they come out is the kind of finishing touch that makes people ask for the recipe before they've even sat down.

Add the ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine's manufacturer — typically liquids first. Add the warm water, softened butter, and egg, then add the flour, sugar, and salt. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the yeast. Select the Dough cycle and press Start.
When the Dough cycle completes (typically 90 minutes, including kneading and the first rise), the dough should be smooth, slightly tacky, and roughly doubled in size. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
