Combine the lentils, 2 cups water, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, and 1/2 tsp salt in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a gentle simmer and cook, uncovered, until the lentils are tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, 18–22 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
While the lentils cook, make the pico: combine the diced tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, 2 tbsp lime juice, and 1/4 tsp salt in a bowl. Stir to combine and set aside at room temperature.
