Combine the cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels, then rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of each thigh.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the chicken thighs in a single layer and cook undisturbed for 5–6 minutes, until the underside is deep golden and releases easily from the pan. Flip and cook for another 4–5 minutes, until the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) on an instant-read thermometer at the thickest part.
