Rich, slow-braised duck legs surrounded by sweet potato, tart apple chunks, and garden-fresh sage — this stew is the kind of deeply satisfying cold-weather cooking that feels both rustic and a little special. The duck is seared until the skin turns deep golden brown before everything gets layered into the pot, so you get incredible depth of flavor without any complicated technique. Pomegranate juice and apple cider vinegar bring a gentle brightness to the broth that balances the richness of the meat beautifully. Every ingredient here is whole and straightforward — duck, vegetables, fruit, herbs, and spice — so there's no need to scrutinize labels or worry about hidden legume-derived fillers that can sneak into packaged broths or seasoning blends. Turmeric and ginger add a subtle warmth that ties the apples and sage together in a way that feels intentional rather than accidental. After a long, covered braise, the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender and the broth has absorbed all those layered flavors into something genuinely crave-worthy. Finish each bowl with a scatter of fresh parsley and you've got a dinner that looks as good as it tastes.

Pat the duck legs thoroughly dry with paper towels and season all over with 3/4 tsp of the salt.
Heat the coconut oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the duck legs skin-side down and sear undisturbed for 6–8 minutes, until the skin is deep golden brown and releases easily from the pot. Flip and sear the second side for 3 minutes, until lightly browned. Transfer the duck legs to a plate and set aside. Pour off all but about 1 tbsp of the rendered duck fat from the pot.
