Rich, deeply savory, and built from whole-food ingredients, this braised duck stew is the kind of nourishing meal that feels like it's actively doing something good for you — because it genuinely is. Duck legs are an excellent source of protein and iron, both of which are especially important when your body is working hard to produce milk, and the bone broth base adds a layer of minerals and collagen that you simply won't get from a boxed shortcut. Sweet potato and carrots bring natural sweetness and beta-carotene to every bowl, while tart apple chunks add brightness and a subtle acidity that keeps the stew from feeling heavy. Fresh sage, thyme, turmeric, and ginger layer in flavor without relying on anything processed or hard to trace — every ingredient on this list is exactly what it says it is. The long, slow braise does most of the work for you, coaxing the duck meat until it's fall-off-the-bone tender and the broth turns glossy and complex. Pomegranate juice and apple cider vinegar lift the whole pot with a gentle tang that makes the finished stew taste far more sophisticated than the effort involved. It's the kind of deeply satisfying dinner that reheats beautifully, so making a full batch means you've got yourself covered for more than one meal.

Pat the duck legs thoroughly dry with paper towels and season all over with 3/4 tsp of the salt.
Heat the coconut oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the duck legs skin-side down and sear undisturbed for 6–8 minutes, until the skin is deep golden brown and releases easily from the pot. Flip and sear the second side for 3 minutes, until lightly browned. Transfer the duck legs to a plate and set aside. Pour off all but about 1 tbsp of the rendered duck fat from the pot.
