Rich, slow-braised duck with tart apple and earthy sage is the kind of deeply satisfying stew that feels like it belongs on a restaurant menu — yet it comes together in a single Dutch oven on your own stovetop. Every ingredient here is whole and recognizable: duck legs, fresh vegetables, real fruit, herbs straight from the bunch, and a splash of pomegranate juice for a subtle tartness that makes the broth genuinely special. For anyone navigating artificial dyes and synthetic additives, that ingredient list is a genuine relief — no mystery colorants hiding in a seasoning packet or store-bought broth, just honest food doing all the work. The sear on the duck skin builds a deep golden crust that flavors the entire pot, while the long, gentle braise coaxes the meat until it's practically falling off the bone. Sweet potato and carrot soak up the herby, lightly spiced broth, and the Granny Smith apple chunks added near the end stay tender without turning to mush, giving every spoonful a bright contrast to the richness of the duck. Ground turmeric and ginger add warmth and color the natural way, so the finished stew looks as beautiful as it tastes. Scatter a little fresh parsley over the top and bring the whole pot straight to the table — this one is a showstopper.

Pat the duck legs thoroughly dry with paper towels and season all over with 3/4 tsp of the salt.
Heat the coconut oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the duck legs skin-side down and sear undisturbed for 6–8 minutes, until the skin is deep golden brown and releases easily from the pot. Flip and sear the second side for 3 minutes, until lightly browned. Transfer the duck legs to a plate and set aside. Pour off all but about 1 tbsp of the rendered duck fat from the pot.
