Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Add the chard stems and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and beginning to turn translucent at the edges, about 4–5 minutes.
Add the garlic and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant and just beginning to turn golden at the edges, about 1 minute. Watch closely, as the garlic can brown quickly.
